Sweet Success
The Concept program History Heroes is designed to promote success in and out of the classroom. We want to recognize students acting as civics leaders in their communities or schools, and students who are going above and beyond in their social studies classrooms.
April is our last month to hold the competition, so for the final time this school year our winners are:

Rising Stars: HSA McKinley Park Jr. FLL Team
On April 28-30, Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park's Jr. FLL robotics team, HSA Hawks #3622, attended the Jr. FIRST LEGO League World Expo. They were the one nd only Jr. FLL team representing Chicago! They joined 60 other teams from 7 different countries including China, Mexico, and Lebanon.
The HSA Hawks, a rookie team, proudly earned the Rising Star Award at their first Jr. FLL Competition!

NAVY Under-Water Robotics Competition 2016!
Gateway Science Academy Underwater Robotics teams attended in NAVY Underwater Robotics competition in Chicago on Saturday, March 19th. The team competed against 114 teams from all around Midwest in 4 different categories and won first place with the best time passing underwater obstacles in 1 minute and 37 seconds. GSA also won second place in the Underwater Challenge Category and won the peer-nominated "Most Creative" Award. Way to go, GSA!

4th Annual CS Spanish Spelling Bee
The 4th Annual Concept Schools Spanish Spelling Bee Competition was held at HSA Lorain on May, 7 2016 in three major categories: elementary school, middle school and high school.

Ms. Genny Diaz from Toledo School was the presenter, Mrs Viviana Velez from Cleveland High School was the pronouncer and Mrs Yasmine Shively from Denison Middle School and Mr Baez from Noble Academy of Cleveland were the spelling bee judges.

Runner up: Timothy Spearman III / Indiana Math and Science Academy - North
Horizon Science Academy Cleveland senior Tevin McDowell collected
a total of $1,260,680, for four years, in merit-based scholarships from various colleges.
As his counselor, Mr. Orcun, promised Tevin will be awarded one tray of home-made baklava for winning the scholarship contest in the school.

MathCON 2016 Photo Contest Winners Announced.
More than 10,000 students in Kindergarten through 12th grade from all over the U.S. cast their votes online to pick the best math photos of the year among almost 200 photos ranging from the Fibonacci and the Golden Ratio to various objects in nature. Then the top ten math photos were voted for by a large group of online participants, and the top three were awarded their prizes at the MathCON 2016 Finals.
1st Place: $300 Gift Card (Envisioning Math, Iris Ung. Richmond, TX)
2nd Place: $200 Gift Card (Facial Graph, Julia Bhuiyan. Canton, MI)
3rd Place: $100 Gift Card (Rainbow Rays, Niharika Sapra. Gurnee, IL)
Qualifying photos for the 2016 MathCON Photo Contest were exhibited at the MathCON Finals in Chicago on Saturday, April 23, 2016.
